San Francisco: Vaillancourt Fountain

Vaillancourt Fountain

After checking out the Ferry Building we stumbled upon this really amazing public artwork at the Embarcadero Center. After doing a little bit of research I found out that the fountain was created by Canadian sculptor, Armand Vaillancourt, in 1971. Known locally as the Vaillancourt Fountain, “Quebec Libre!” apparently caused quite a bit of controversy at the time. See this TIME article that discusses the circumstances.
