Sato Kanae: Illustrations

For the month of August, a series of guest posters will be filling in on DWL with daily posts. Today’s posts come to you from Erin Jang of The Indigo Bunting. For more from Erin, be sure to check out her blog and Food Sketches project. Enjoy!

Very few illustrators can capture childhood the way Sato Kanae does. This Japanese illustrator depicts children doing things — dreaming, speaking with animals, standing in a dark forest, smelling oranges, floating, gathering mushrooms, feeling afraid — with a special simplicity and innocence. I love how she uses saturated colors and a limited palette. See more of her artwork here.
