Info: Lovely little lies from hungry graphic designer

You know those little lies we tell ourselves just to make it through the day? Like “I can hold my liquor.” And “I won’t eat all the french fries.” Or the ever-popular “I’m not a workaholic.” Well, imagine those lies beautifully illustrated with hand-drawn, 3D typography.

Lauren Hom is a award-winning designer, illustrator and letter, based in Brooklyn, NY. She owns a studio, Hom Sweet Hom, and also runs the Daily Dishonesty blog, which was just nominated for it’s second Webby.

Lauren’s Daily Dishonesty Instagram feed (she also maintains a personal account @homsweethom) features her signature lettering. Her work is clean but still maintains that whimsical, handmade feeling with bright color palettes and playful typography. Her Instagram feed also gives us a glimpse into her creative process, showing her typography in sketch form. I love seeing how the sketch transforms into the final product.

Lauren was nice enough to post a tutorial on her 3D lettering process, which is definitely worth checking out. She also recently announced that she has a Daily Dishonesty book coming out in Fall 2014. And if you’re a fan of Lauren’s work, you can visit her shop on Society6.

I like to say that I’m a designer by day, blogger by night and photographer on the side. I started my career in package design before going into advertising, then B2B communications, a small stint back into packaging and I now work for a large digital agency. I am so lucky to get to do what I love every day, but I am always looking for creative outlets. My blog, Girly Obsessions, allows me to design something that represents me – my aesthetic and my obsessive personality! I love taking and editing photos, and am slightly addicted to Instagram and Lightroom. I also love to travel and explore. I love to bake. And most importantly, I just love to think creatively.
