Occupy George

I haven’t been following the Occupy Wall Street movement all that closely, but I’ve been paying enough attention to know that it’s sparking quite a few thought-provoking conversations. So I was excited to come across this extension of the movement, Occupy George—a perfect conversation starter. By stamping dollar bills with relevant infographics, the facts will literally be placed right in consumers’ hands. And it doesn’t hurt that the graphics are simply and clearly designed to make an instant impact. You can learn more about the project and download templates to use for yourself right here.

Money talks, but not loud enough for the 99%. By circulating dollar bills stamped with fact-based infographics, Occupy George informs the public of America’s daunting economic disparity one bill at a time. Because money knowledge is power.

  1. Anyone ever think that maybe that 1% earned the wealth distribution they have? I mean they did, either currently or some point in the past, create a product that is paid for and used by “everyone else”. I will never understand why people hate those who are wealthy. They didn’t just wake up and become “the 1%”; they found some way of either working or maybe even exploiting their way up. While we sit here looking at websites and typing comments… that is why we aren’t “the 1%”.

  2. Effective, but misleading. Market value is not stuff — arithmetic performed on it is not as meaningful as people presume, and adding it all up results in non-sense. Talking about who has 1% or 5% or 20% of the sum of market value is just mysticism.

  3. I’m pretty sure the goal of this was to educate the 99%, and urge them to take some sort of action. The 1% may be the target of the entire OWC movement, but they’re not the direct audience for this project.

  4. Good idea, Get the message to the 99%. “Anyone ever think that maybe that 1% earned the wealth distribution they have?” You mean like earning it by abusing people’s needs by overcharging, or by not getting taxed equally? or by being born into money and being a greedy spoiled brat because your greedy spoiled parents never taught you morality or the value of a dollar?

  5. What about Oprah, she is in the 1%, do we hate her?

The 1% should not be forced to give to the 99% but they should be taxed equally with the rest of us.

This project was created to rethink what they could be. One Minnesota Lake. One Logo. Every day. Should only take a little over 27 years to hit ‘em all.
