Recommended Resources: Skillshare Round-up

As an avid user (and teacher) of Skillshare’s online classes, I thought it would be great to use this column to highlight a few of their offerings each month. They are continuously adding new and interesting class options, which is why at the moment I’m enrolled in more classes than I’ve yet had the time to take.

The choices can be a bit overwhelming, but the good news is the majority of classes give you permanent access to the content so that you can learn at your own place. To get you started, I’ve listed a handful of courses that might be good place for you to start.

Type Design: Introduction to Effects in Illustrator

Type Design: Introduction to Effects in Illustrator is a new class by Evan Huwa where you will learn how to use Adobe Illustrator type effects that can then be applied to future logo designs. Use discount code DESIGN to get 20% off.

Learn InDesign: Basic Layouts, Type and Images

InDesign is so much easier to learn when you have a skilled person showing you the ropes. So if it’s a skill you want to add to your arsenal, I recommend Anne Ditmeyer’s  Learn InDesign: Basic Layouts, Type and Images.

The New Business Toolbox: Help Your New Business Do It Right The First Time

Thinking about (or currently engaged in) starting a new business? Seth Godin‘s new class, The New Business Toolbox: Help Your New Business Do It Right The First Time , might be right for you. In this self-paced class you will learn “hands-on, strategic and practical tactics every small businessperson ought to consider as she sets out to grow her business.”

Get Stuff Done Like A Boss: Design Your Workflow and Double Your Productivity in 21 Days

I actually just started Get Stuff Done Like a Boss, and so far it has been incredibly helpful. With so much to do on a daily basis, I am always looking for ways to improve my productivity. I had actually been half-following the GTD method for awhile, but this class helped me implement the principles in a clear cut way through using specific apps. I’m looking forward to seeing how much time the system saves me when it’s fully up and running.

Lettering With Texture: Dimensional Type With Layers And Color

As a big fan of Jeff Rogers’s work, I can’t wait to dive into his new class, Lettering With Texture: Dimensional Type With Layers And Color. This class will explore lettering through painting by hand, something I’ve definitely never experimented with, which is always exciting.

Beyond the Logo and By the Book

And in case you haven’t signed up for either of my two classes, Beyond the Logo: Crafting a Brand Identity or By the Book: Create a Style Guide for Your Brand, now might be a great time. I’m about to close out the first challenge in my Style Guide class, and about to open the second in Beyond the Logo. If you’d like to sign up, enter code DWL2104 for 20% off through the end of this month.

This really is just the tip of the iceberg, so be sure to check out Skillshare’s entire library for many more options.
